Our Team

James Ro, Managing Director

James has over 10 years of experience in a wide range of business areas, including SR&ED (R&D tax credits), management, debt and equity financings, mergers, acquisitions and divestitures. James’ contacts in the private capital market, coupled with his diverse experience in raising risk capital and SR&ED, gives him a unique ability to assist early-stage, technology companies with their capital structure, growth plans and cash flow needs. James previously worked at E&Y Orenda Corporate Finance, Genuity Capital Markets and Solaris Capital Advisors. James holds an H.B.B.A from Wilfrid Laurier University.


Brian Hunter, Managing Director

Brian has more than 30 years of experience in providing debt and equity financing to privately-held businesses in Southern Ontario. Brian began his career with Roynat Capital, Canada's leading private merchant bank and later became Director and District Manager of the Kitchener Office. During his 30-year tenure with Roynat Capital, he assisted hundreds of entrepreneurs with their long term capital needs for growth, acquisitions, working capital and liquidity needs. Brian earned his BA in Economics and MBA at the University of Western Ontario.


Max Qasmi, Director

Max has been involved in claiming highly technical SR&ED projects for over 10 years. He completed his Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering at McMaster University, then subsequently earned his Masters degree in Applied Science and Masters in Business Administration while working as a research scientist developing simulation platforms for point-to-point optical communication systems. He later managed several multi-national projects developing embedded and real-time digital communication systems and applications. In 2009, he earned his Project Management Professional (PMP) designation. Max utilizes his diverse knowledge base gained over the years to assist clients in identifying and claiming even the most difficult R&D projects.


Gerry Fung, Director

Gerry is a Professional Engineer who has been involved in the SR&ED program since 2003. He has also gained significant business experience managing the operations of a retail consumer products distributor and an e-commerce direct-sales division. Gerry holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Computer/Electrical) from Queen's University, a Masters of Applied Science (Biomedical Engineering) from University of Toronto and an MBA from Wilfrid Laurier University. He is currently completing his requirements for the Certified Management Accounting (CMA) designation.
